It started as a viral trend in 2017. Does ‘Books on the Delhi Metro’ still matter today?

It’s been nearly a decade, and the Delhi metro has quietly become a space for the literary community. People leave books behind for them to be found, read, and passed along again, finding their next reader somewhere in transit.

Books and doors are the same thing. You open them, and you go through into another world.” – Jeanette Winterson

I couldn’t agree more.

And I’ve slipped into many such worlds, mostly fiction, not in the quiet corners of a bookstore or a library, but somewhere far more ordinary: during long metro rides. Between stations and announcements, I’d tune out the noise, open a book, and disappear for a while. Turns out, I’m not the only one.
